Yesterday, I spoke to a group of undergrads at Ashoka University. These guys are HUNGRY. I don’t mean that literally. Even though my talk was during the lunch hour. I mean they understand how competitive the economy is, and are hunting for opportunities to grow. They’re doing internships during the school year. They’re starting non-profits and companies. They’re attending talks and pitching themselves directly to the founder, for jobs at the company. No fear, no second-guessing. 1000 people have applied for our Founders’ Office at Lumiere in the last 3 months. I have interviewed 50 of them personally. But none has made the final cut.  This is worse than the drop-off rate in my advanced abstract algebra class. My friends text me every week to ask if we’re hiring for this role or running a competitive exam. Please, I am tired, so allow me to be blunt. We’re looking for 3 things - (a) high ownership (b) deep relationship-building ability (c) solid structured thinking. Team members in our Founders’ Office lead P&Ls of verticals or entire functions during their time at Lumiere.
